Privacy Policy

The short version:

✅ No account required. No sign-up. No personal data collected.

✅ All your data stays on your device (localStorage).

✅ Location is only used when you explicitly enable auto-detect.

✅ Analytics are privacy-first (Plausible) — no cookies, no tracking.

✅ We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to anyone.

1. Who we are

First Out is a London Underground, DLR, and Overground exit positioning app built by Cultural Capital Labs. The app is available at firstout.app.

2. What data we collect

We collect no personal data. First Out does not require an account, email address, name, or any personally identifiable information to use.

Here is exactly what the app uses:

3. Local storage (on your device only)

First Out uses your browser's localStorage to save your preferences and usage data. This data never leaves your device. It includes:

Saved stations — stations you bookmark for quick access
Saved routines — named journey routines you create
Recent searches — your last few station lookups
Journey count — how many journeys you have optimised
Community votes — your accuracy votes on exit positions
Badges and streaks — your achievement progress
Feature preferences — step-free mode, calm mode, luggage mode toggles
Onboarding status — whether you have seen the welcome walkthrough
When-to-leave alerts — departure time settings

You can clear all of this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for firstout.app, or by using the "Clear all" option within the app.

4. Location data

First Out can use your device's location to detect your nearest tube station (auto-detect mode). This feature:

Is completely optional — you must explicitly tap the "Auto" button to enable it
Uses your browser's standard Geolocation API
Only processes your coordinates locally on your device to match against known station locations
Does not transmit your location to any server
Can be disabled at any time by tapping the Auto button again or revoking location permission in your browser settings

We do not store, log, or transmit your location coordinates.

5. Analytics

First Out uses Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first, GDPR-compliant analytics service. Plausible:

Does not use cookies
Does not collect personal data
Does not track users across sites
Does not use fingerprinting
Collects only aggregate, anonymous page view data (e.g. total visits, popular pages, referring sites, country-level location, device type)

No individual user can be identified from Plausible's data. You can read Plausible's data policy for full details.

6. TfL API

First Out fetches live line status data from Transport for London's (TfL) public API. These requests are made directly from your browser to TfL's servers. We do not proxy, store, or log these requests. TfL's own privacy policy applies to their API.

7. Service worker and offline access

First Out is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that caches station data locally using a service worker. This allows the app to work fully offline — underground, on a plane, or anywhere without a connection. Cached data is stored on your device only.

8. Third-party services

First Out uses the following third-party services:

Google Fonts — to load the Inter typeface. Google's privacy policy applies to font loading requests.
Plausible Analytics — privacy-first analytics as described above.
TfL Unified API — for live line status data.
Netlify — hosting provider. Netlify's privacy policy applies to hosting.

We do not use advertising networks, social media trackers, or any other third-party tracking services.

9. Children's privacy

First Out does not knowingly collect any data from children. The app does not require any personal information from any user of any age.

10. Data transfers

Since we do not collect personal data, there is no data to transfer. Your saved stations, routines, and preferences exist solely on your device in localStorage.

11. Your rights

Under GDPR and UK data protection law, you have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data. Since First Out does not collect personal data on any server, your data is entirely under your control on your device. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser data.

12. Changes to this policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
